Handmade Gift Idea #1: Bag of Fresh Milled Flour and Thrifted Cookie Cutters
A few weeks ago, someone purchased some fresh milled flour from us as a gift, and I thought that was just a genius idea! It’s a unique, beautiful, and inexpensive gift to share with anyone in your life who loves to bake. Paired with some thrifted cookie cutters, it would make a beautiful, thoughtful gift ideas!
Shop – Fresh Milled Flour
For sourdough bread bakers, opt for fresh milled hard red wheat. For people on your list who like to bake cookies, cakes, and other pastries, try out fresh milled soft white wheat!

How To Wrap:
- Put the fresh milled flour in a brown gift bag, and add some white tissue paper.
- Use a pinstripe ribbon to tie the cookie cutters to the cellophane bag!
Handmade Gift Idea #2: Mason Jar of Organic Coffee Beans and a Thrifted Mug
In our area, we discovered an AMAZING local coffee roaster. This family raises their organic coffee beans in Nicaragua and then sends them to Middle TN for another family member to roast, package, and sell. It is delicious coffee– so delicious, I insist on driving out to “the sticks” as we say in the South to get a bag once a month.
Pair these coffee beans with a thrifted or handmade mug for a beautiful gift!

How To Wrap:
- Put a small bag of coffee beans into your mug.
- Then, put the mug and coffee in a small cellophane bag.
- Add a pretty checkered gingham ribbon to the bag to tie it all together!
Handmade Gift Idea #3: Whipped Brown Butter and Foccacia Bread
There are some people who just have all the “stuff” that they need. For a long time, I would fret over what I could get them. But I’ve learned that for those people, there is really two ways to go, depending on their personality. You can try to find a unique experience they have never heard of, or you can make them something. Making something with love is often the better, cheaper, and easier route. There are few things in this world more universally accepted than homemade bread and butter.
We make our foccacia bread with fresh milled flour and pair it with this whipped brown butter in a mason jar for a hosting gift, teacher gift, or gift for a friend!
How To Wrap:
- Put your whipped butter in a quilted mason jar, and use this free printable label for the top of the jar, then add a ribbon to the mason jar.
- Add the foccacia and whipped butter to a bread bag or wrap in a tea towel and place in a thrifted basket!
Handmade Gift Idea #4: Thrifted Ceramic Bowls and Handmade Bowl Covers
Who doesn’t love a beautiful antique ceramic bowl? They may or may not be on my Christmas list for this year. Paired with a handmade bowl cover, this is simple way to add beauty to any kitchen. Try this tutorial for beautiful handmade bowl covers!
Tip: Always check thrifted or antique dishes for lead. We use these test kits.
You can even make a variety of sizes, and make a cute little set! I love the mason jar size covers!

How To Wrap:
- Fill the bowl with a handwritten note and crinkled brown paper shavings.
- Add the bowl cover on top of whatever bowl you are gifting.
- Tie a bow around the bowl for a beautiful, simple way to wrap!
Handmade Gift Idea #5: Sentimental Hand Painted Plates
I love this idea because you can really get creative here. We made one of these for my mother in law for her birthday! We made a platter that said “LuLu’s Kitchen” and traced our little girl’s foot onto the platter with the intention of one day adding many other little feet!
You could also make plates with…
- Wedding anniversary
- Last name
- Sketch of their home
Check out this tutorial by my friend Daisy at Fernway Home!

How To Wrap:
- Add your plate into a cellophane bag.
- Add a cotton ribbon to the bag to tie it all together!
Handmade Gift Idea #6: Handmade Garden Plant Markers and Heirloom Seeds
We personally love to get our seeds from Annie’s Heirloom Organic Seeds. They have always been consistently high quality for us, and they are beautiful. Pair them with some handmade garden plant markers, and you have a beautiful, thoughtful gift for any gardeners in your life.
Try this tutorial for making handmade garden markers from the blog Nourish and Nestle.

How To Wrap:
I would keep this one pretty classic!
- Add the seeds and garden markers to a small brown paper box.
- Add tissue paper or crinkled brown paper to the box to make it feel full and textured.
- Wrap the box with your choice of paper and a bow!
I love that this paper includes the Nativity scene– the whole meaning of Christmas.
Handmade Gift Idea #7: Handmade Dinner Napkins and Thrifted Napkin Rings
If there is someone on your list who loves to set a beautiful table, this is the gift for them. I thrifted a few of these good napkin rings here and there until I finally found a full set! I love them because they are unique, and remind me of my “silly goose” sweet baby girl.
The blog Chalking Up Success has a great tutorial showing how you can make simple cloth napkins, even for people like me who are still working on their sewing skills.

How To Wrap:
- Grab a thrifted basket.
- Put the napkin rings around the handmade napkins.
- Gently and intentionally arrange the napkins and tissue paper in the basket!
Handmade Gift Idea #8: Hand Embroidered Ultrasound Ornament
I love these because they are fairly simple to make and such a thoughtful gift. I have gifted these to people with their baby’s ultrasound and have also made them with my own baby’s ultrasound for the grandparents.
Supplies:
- Mini embroidery hoops
- Navy or black fabric
- Twine
- Large Eye Needle
- White embroidery thread
- Embroidery scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue
- Scrapbook paper
Tutorial:
The steps to doing this are very simple, but do require a little creativity.
- Put your fabric in your embroidery hoop and pull it as tightly as it will go.
- Then, thread your needle with white embroidery thread.
- Using your ultrasound picture as a reference, “draw” the ultrasound onto the fabric, using small, even stitches.
- Once you are done, use a hot glue gun to glue the fabric down in the back.
- Finally, cut out a piece of festive scrapbook paper the size of the embroidery hoop, and hot glue it to the back of the hoop!
These are some of the most thoughtful gifts I have ever given!

How To Wrap:
This one is simple! Tie a piece of twine to the top so it can hang on the Christmas tree, and place it in a small brown gift box with tissue paper!
Handmade Gift Idea #9: Homemade Herb Salts With Herbs From The Garden
One year, my small group from church decided we were going to make handmade gifts to exchange. I used this method from Bailey Van Tassel. It’s super simple! Just harvest the herbs you want to use, give them a good wash, and add them to a food processor with salt. Then, use the oven to dry out the salt at a low temperature and give them one final blitz in the food processor to give the “artisan” texture.
This one is a delicious red onion finishing herb salt that I made.

How To Wrap:
- Add the herb salts to a leftover glass spice jar or get one like this off Amazon.
- Make a set of three– I like to do red onion salt, chive salt, and rosemary salt, and add them to a brown gift box with crinkled brown paper!
